Using GIF transparency PDF Print E-mail
What a nightmare when it comes to using GIF transparency for the web! If the background color is not the same as the GIF object color then you need to take some steps in order not to have a noisy outline.I am working on a few projects and came across the use of GIF transparency. Although I read about it, I never had to use it because I use mainly Flash. So, I was drawing rounded buttons on a pictured background. Of course the colors don't match at all. Once looking at the result in my browser (IE and Safari) the outline was scrambly and noisy due to pixelization using GIF transparency. After some readings, I came across a good article in one of my book and tried to add, when exporting my image, a matte background that is close to the color used in my original background. The result was much better and the outline was almost crisp and sound. Although still not perfect, I need to test my work a little bit more to fine tune it. For the font, it is a little bit different. You can easily modify the appearance of your font outline by deciding whether to use or not anti-aliased. Enjoy!
